“What has worked is CBD. More specifically a targeted Inflammation Blend Oil from Seabedee, a pioneering line out of San Diego whose tinctures are created with unique terpenes and cannabinoids that are the first of their kind”.
As a writer, I spend half of my day sitting. As a captive of Covid quarantine, I often spend the other half of my day stressing.
I alternate between my desk, the couch, the floor – wherever my cat can sleep between my legs – but at the end of the day I will have spent nearly my whole day sitting in one place or another.
It’s a side-effect of the job but also a more recent side-effect of the isolation that we are all enduring at this time due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. The days feel longer and the motivation to get up and move around is replaced with eating lunch in front of the t.v. and mid-day naps.
It’s no secret that prolonged sitting affects our overall health and wellbeing. During the rainy months in Portland, Oregon, I often go weeks without seeing the sun, and it becomes easier (and drier) to stay indoors than take my regular walks around the neighborhood.
There are many threats during this time; stress, loneliness, societal rifts, emotional paralysis, depression, and equally concerning as all that is what the pandemic is doing to our bodies.
How Does Sitting Increase Inflammation?
A sedentary lifestyle has always been linked to chronic inflammation in the body.
Inflammation is the body’s way of protecting itself from harmful outside elements. But when the body is inactive, stressed, or has a build-up of excess fat cells, inflammation becomes an insidious, chronic, and often invisible killer.
Weeks, months, sometimes years of inflammatory build-up can result in swelling, pain, and blood clots that are the leading cause of heart attacks and most strokes.
While research is limited concerning the direct effects of sitting and inflammation, it is known that sitting relaxes your largest muscles, which then “take up very little glucose, raising the risk of Type 2 Diabetes.” As the body becomes less sensitive to insulin, inflammation increases due to the insulin resistance.
Can Stress Increase Inflammation?
Stress increases every negative impact on the body, inflammation being a big one.
The constant stress of our frantic, social media consumed, bills overdue, kids homeschooling, reality t.v.-filled lives have required our bodies to remain in a heightened state of “fight-or-flight”, increasing our risk of contracting stress-related diseases. A recent study shows that “large bodies of evidence indicate that stress can activate inflammatory responses in the brain as well as peripherally.”
There is a direct link between our bodies and our minds, and every day we get further away from being capable of maintaining a state of homeostasis due to the increase of external factors.
As we simmer in stress and settle into our seats, our bodies become overwhelmed with inflammation and succumb to the inherent threat from the inability to stabilize emotions and control stress.
What Have I Done To Help Myself?
The realization that my body was suffering was the first step to finding a solution.
My research led me to several anti-inflammatory diets and meditation sites. And that is all fine and good, but I never had a problem with my diet, and I just don’t think meditation is the answer for me.
What has worked is CBD. More specifically a targeted Inflammation Blend Oil from Seabedee, a pioneering line out of San Diego whose tinctures are created with unique terpenes and cannabinoids that are the first of their kind.
I have dabbled in edibles and 1-to-1 THC/CBD blends, but never enjoyed the psychoactive effects. They relaxed me right into unproductivity.
So I chose straight CBD and to take it directly through the tincture, which as studies show, work to soothe inflammation and relax the body quickly and with no side effects.
Upon receiving the Inflammation Blend, I consulted the suggested dosage chart and decided that because I am not totally new to Cannabidiol I would start with a .75mL dose. I held it under my tongue for 30 seconds as instructed before swallowing.
The taste is pleasant, so tame that I could barely register a flavor. After imbibing in other, more pungent brands in the past, this was a welcome change.
I took the Inflammation Blend twice a day for a week, once upon waking up and once before bed. I did not change my diet during the week or engage in any more activity than normal.
First thing I noticed was the calming effect the oil had on my body. I normally hold tension in my neck, shoulders, and stomach. The nearly immediate result of the Inflammation Blend was a type of smoothing out of the ripples in my muscles. If you’ve ever held tension then you know what that feels like. My sleep the first night was less rigid and I woke up feeling looser than I had in a long time.
After a couple of days I felt a decrease of pressure in my legs and ankles. I have always suffered from bits of swelling, often due to dehydration or heat exhaustion, but in the past year I have been well-hydrated and have attributed the swelling to inflammation caused by stress and sitting for long periods of time.
The lessening of the pressure in my extremities was the biggest change I noticed upon testing the Inflammation Blend. It was a measurable and welcome difference.
Is It For Everyone?
I don’t see why not! Without the psychoactive effects of THC, the benefits of CBD are plentiful with no discernible downsides.
The Seabedee Inflammation Blend is my first exploration into this brand’s product line, and it is also the first time that I have been able to physically track the effects of CBD on my body and the specific ailment the blend is designed to treat.
This gives me confidence to continue with this product and the anticipation to try others in the line!
